If you have a computer still running Windows 7, you’ll want to make sure to look for and install next months update from Microsoft.
As we discussed in a previous blog post, Microsoft has already announced the end-of-life for Windows 7. As of January 14th, 2020 Microsoft will stop providing any kind of security updates and patches for the Windows 7 operating system, at least for most users.
However, there’s been another development as reported by MSPoweruser for Windows 7 users. Microsoft is enhancing the security and encryption of Windows updates, and with that a new update is required to make older editions of the operating system compatible with the newer encryption. Windows 7 users will need to install the March update in order to be able to receive future Windows updates that use the newer encryption and security.
If Windows 7 users don’t install the March update, they won’t be able to receive future Windows updates for their computers.
With security updates ending next year for Windows 7 it’s best to start getting a plan together now for upgrading or replacing your Windows 7 PC. In the meantime though, make sure to install all updates to give yourself some more time (and be more secure) until you have your upgrade plan in place.
